Screw elements and wear liners for Wenger TX and Magnum series extruders

We make replacement screw elements, kneading blocks, wear liners, barrel sections and screw shafts for Wenger TX and Magnum series extruders, on pet food, aquafeed and food duty. On the larger machines the liner is usually the item that decides when the barrel comes apart.

Liners in a grade not held in stock can take longer. Plan against a shutdown rather than a breakdown.

TX and Magnum: capacity changes what wears

The TX and Magnum series are built for different throughputs, and that changes the wear pattern rather than just the part number. On the larger machines the screw elements are frequently not the first thing to go — the wear liner is.

A big barrel carries a lot of surface area at high pressure. The liner erodes across a wide face, and because it is a consumable it is designed to be replaced. The failure to avoid is fitting a new screw set into a bore that is already oversize: the clearance is wrong from the first day, and the new elements wear faster than the old ones did.

Pet food and aquafeed: wear from two directions

  • Abrasion from grain, mineral premix and bone meal, which opens the flight crest and the bore together
  • Corrosion from salt in marine diets and from acidic inclusions, which pits the surface before it wears measurably
  • Fat and meat slurry, which do not wear the steel but do change how the machine must be cleaned — and cleaning attacks polished surfaces

Downstream coating and drying never touch the extruder, so a line that looks clean at the bagging end can still be running with open clearance in the barrel.

Watch the product, not the machine

The first symptoms on pet food and aquafeed are product-side: pellet durability index falling at unchanged settings, bulk density drifting, or the sink rate of aquafeed changing. Throughput falls last, well after the clearance opened.

That is why we recommend measuring the flight crest against the bore at every planned shutdown and recording it. A trend line tells you when to order. A single reading at breakdown tells you only that you are late.

What we make for TX and Magnum

  • Conveying screw elements and screw segments
  • Kneading blocks, single-piece and assembled
  • Wear liners and barrel sections
  • Screw shafts and shaft assemblies

What interchangeable actually means

Interchangeable means the element fits the shaft, matches the centre distance and reproduces the conveying geometry, so it can run alongside original parts on the same shaft. We work from OEM drawings where they are available and from measured samples where they are not.

  • Same spline and keyway
  • Same outer diameter and pitch
  • Same stagger angles
  • Can be mixed with OEM parts on one shaft

Materials for feed and pet food duty

The grade follows the recipe, not the brand. A poultry feed line and a marine aquafeed line on the same platform will not take the same steel.

Material selection
Product contact, general food duty300-series stainless, nitrided or through-hardened
Product contact, abrasive recipeCorrosion-resistant grade at 58–62 HRC (mineral premix, bone meal, aquafeed)
Non-contact positionsNitrided steel or tool steel as for compounding
Barrel borePolished or plated bore; nitrided, alpha-101, HIP PM or laser-clad liner

Verification and documentation

Each shipment includes a dimensional inspection report. On request we supply material certificates to EN 10204 3.1, hardness results and a CMM printout for the batch.

  • CMM dimensional report
  • EN 10204 3.1 certificates
  • Hardness and case-depth records
  • Photographs before packing

What to send us

  • A photograph of the machine nameplate, so we can confirm TX or Magnum and the size
  • The position of the worn element on the shaft, or a photograph of the whole screw
  • A photograph of the worn part with a rule in frame, or the OEM part number if it is legible
  • If the bore is suspect, the measured bore diameter and roundness

From those we confirm compatibility and quote before anything is machined.

Frequently asked questions

Do you supply wear liners for Wenger TX and Magnum extruders?

Yes. Liners and barrel sections are supplied alongside elements, kneading blocks and shafts. On abrasive pet food and aquafeed duty the liner often reaches its limit before the elements do.

Should I replace the screw set and the liner at the same time?

Measure both before deciding. If the bore is within tolerance, replacing elements alone is correct. If it is not, new elements in a worn bore will run with the wrong clearance and wear out faster than the set they replaced.

Which Wenger parts wear first on aquafeed?

The cook-zone kneading blocks and the wear liner. Aquafeed combines mineral loading, salt corrosion and high specific mechanical energy, and those three reinforce each other.

Can you supply a Wenger element without a drawing?

Yes, from a measured sample. We recover the original profile from the unworn section or from the element's position on the shaft where wear has destroyed it.

What lead time should I plan for?

30 to 45 days once material is available and the geometry is confirmed, plus transit. Plan against a shutdown, not a breakdown.
