We machine replacement screw elements, kneading blocks, screw shafts, barrel sections and wear liners for Baker Perkins MPF and SBX twin-screw extruders, in the food-contact grades these lines need. Parts are made to your drawing, or to dimensions taken from the worn part when no drawing survives.
| Models covered | Baker Perkins MPF and SBX platforms |
|---|---|
| Interchangeability | Dimensionally interchangeable with OEM |
| Base material | 300-series stainless, nitrided or through-hardened; 58–62 HRC corrosion-resistant grade for abrasive recipes |
| Verification | CMM report per batch |
| Minimum order | 1 piece |
| Documentation | EN 10204 3.1 on request |
| Lead time | 30–45 days (imported-machine spares), plus transit Ex stock, immediate dispatch (Chinese standard machines) |
The 30–45 day figure applies once material is available and drawings are confirmed. Stainless grades with a specified surface finish can take longer if the material is not held in stock.
Food extrusion is not compounding with a different recipe. Moisture runs 15 to 30 percent, the product has to be cooked to a target degree rather than dispersed to a target fineness, and every part in product contact has to be cleanable. That changes the steel grade, the surface finish and the clearance, not just the drawing.
Three wear mechanisms show up on cereal, snack and confectionery lines, and they do not respond to the same material choice:
Because the cook profile depends on conveying geometry, clearance growth does not show up first as a broken part. It shows up as a product that no longer reaches the target degree at the same throughput, or needs more specific energy to get there.
Elements can be ordered individually to replace the worn positions, or as a matched set for a planned overhaul. Where only part of the shaft is worn, we quote the affected positions rather than the whole set.
Interchangeable means the element fits the shaft, matches the centre distance and reproduces the conveying geometry, so it can run alongside original parts on the same shaft. We work from OEM drawings where they are available and from measured samples where they are not.
The grade follows the duty, not the brand. A confectionery line and a mineral-premix line on the same platform will not take the same steel.
| Product contact, general food duty | 300-series stainless, nitrided or through-hardened |
|---|---|
| Product contact, abrasive recipe | Corrosion-resistant grade at 58–62 HRC (bone meal, mineral premix, aquafeed) |
| Non-contact positions | Nitrided steel or tool steel as for compounding |
| Barrel bore | Polished or plated bore; nitrided, alpha-101, HIP PM or laser-clad liner |
Each shipment includes a dimensional inspection report. On request we supply material certificates to EN 10204 3.1, hardness results and a CMM printout for the batch.
Most Baker Perkins enquiries are answered from three things, none of which needs a drawing:
From those we confirm compatibility and quote before anything is machined. If the geometry is unclear we will ask for a section drawing or a sample.
Yes. The MPF and SBX are the two Baker Perkins platforms we have supplied most often, for cereal, snack and confectionery lines. We machine conveying elements, kneading blocks, screw shafts, barrel sections and wear liners to your drawing or to dimensions taken from the worn part.
Yes, provided the element is dimensionally interchangeable: same spline and keyway, same outer diameter and pitch, same stagger angles. Then it reproduces the conveying geometry and can run alongside original parts. We work from OEM drawings where available and from measured samples where they are not.
General product contact is 300-series stainless, nitrided or through-hardened. Abrasive recipes such as mineral premix or bone meal get a corrosion-resistant grade at 58 to 62 HRC. Barrel bores are polished or plated, with a nitrided, alpha-101, HIP PM or laser-clad liner depending on duty.
Allow 30 to 45 days once material is available and drawings are confirmed, plus transit. Stainless grades with a specific surface finish can take longer if the material is not held in stock, so order ahead of a planned shutdown.
A photograph of the machine nameplate, the element position on the shaft, and either a drawing or a photograph of the worn part with a rule in frame. That is usually enough to confirm compatibility and quote before anything is machined.
Email a photo, a drawing or the OEM part number and we will come back with a quotation.
